Volunteer Position: Summary of Board Member Role

Skills For Life is a charity based in Brampton, ON that promotes the importance of life skills development to encourage success. Our mission is to empower individuals with the skills they need to succeed in all aspects of life, including personal, professional, and social.

Role Description

This is a volunteer virtual role for a Board Member. The Board Member will be responsible for attending regular meetings, providing guidance and support to the organization, and helping to make strategic decisions that align with the mission and values of Skills For Life. The Board Member will also be expected to actively participate in fundraising efforts and promote the organization within the community.

Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit management, fundraising, or board governance
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for promoting life skills development and empowering individuals
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other board members and staff
  • Must be comfortable with using Google Suite (google drive, email, chat, documents, etc)
  • Knowledge of the GTA and Peel Region community and its needs is a plus
  • Experience in finance, legal, or marketing fields is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred

Commitment (approximate)

  • 4-6 meetings of the board per year 2 hours per year (on average)
  • Commitment to Board Giving Goal of Minium $25/month
  • We ask Board members to sit on at least one of at least one committee with 2-4 meetings per year (on average)
  • Attendance at main public functions (as reasonably possible 3-4/year)
  • 30 - 40 hours per year
  • 2-year term (renewable)
  • Virtual Evening Board meetings

Note: Sub Committee’s may be offered as a stepping stone toward later Board opportunities

Currently Recruiting for individuals with a background in:

  • Primary: Finance / CPA/ Bookkeeping/ NPF experience
  • Secondary: Fundraising, Philanthropy, Corporate Giving, Campaign Development

· Tertiary: Youth Social Work, Youth Justice Work, Trades Instructor, IT/AI Technology
