Public Relations Specialist (Volunteer)

Ripple Foundation seeks a skilled Public Relations Specialist to drive our communications strategy and expand our public profile. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, strategic thinking, established media contacts, and a passion for storytelling. Your role will be pivotal in engaging with media, influencers, and the broader community to elevate Ripple Foundation’s presence and impact.

Ripple Foundation empowers children and youth across Canada through free, engaging programs that foster literacy, creativity, and leadership. From the Kids Write 4 Kids national writing contest to Write It Workshops, the Wave Blog, and the Express Inspire Connect Youth Conference, our initiatives amplify young voices and prepare the next generation for future success. Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 media outlets and influencers
- Craft compelling content for press releases, pitches, media advisories, and feature stories, aligning with our mission to inspire creativity and leadership in youth.
- Execute targeted media outreach and research to enhance Ripple Foundation’s brand visibility.
- Proactively pitch creative and newsworthy story ideas to media outlets, highlighting our programs, youth participants, and community impact.
- Monitor media coverage, sharing relevant mentions with the Social Media team to amplify through our digital channels.
- Collaborate with the Social Media team to engage with media contacts and influencers on social platforms, fostering deeper connections.
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive public relations and communications strategies.
Qualification:
- 3-5 years of experience in communications, with a preference for those with PR agency backgrounds.
- Proven success in media and influencer relations, with established contacts in the education and lifestyle sectors.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills; writing samples are encouraged.
- Experience managing a communications program with national reach, ideally in the non-profit or educational sector.
- A proactive, creative mindset, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with fellow volunteers.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
