Position Type

Part- or Full-Time (0.6-1.0). This is a 1-year contract position to support Camp Miriam’s fundraising goals, with a strong possibility of extension based on performance, organizational needs, and funding availability. We’re looking for someone who is excited to grow with us as we build long-term capacity in our development efforts.

Salary

: $ 55,000 to $ 75,000 annually, experience dependent.

Location

Largely work from home, with option to use an office space. In-person meetings with donors and foundations required. Site visits to Camp Miriam on Gabriola Island required. Proximity to Vancouver is an asset, but not a requirement.

Habonim Dror Camp Miriam offers an exceptional overnight Jewish summer camp experience for youth. Our camp is a vibrant and inclusive community where kids can freely explore their values, express their ideas, and make a difference. Our programming emphasizes youth empowerment, with campers taking on leadership roles and supporting each other to create amazing experiences. At Camp Miriam, we make Jewish culture, history, and values personal and relevant, fostering a warm and diverse community where everyone has a voice.

Our camp is proud to support up to 40% of its campers with camperships, allowing those that normally couldn’t afford camp to attend a meaningful camping experience.

Position Overview

This position will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of Camp Miriam. The successful applicant will contribute to two large fundraising efforts:

Manage our recently initiated capital campaign, focused on redeveloping our facilities to increase camper capacity.

Support our established annual campaign.

Reporting directly to the Camp Committee Chair, this position will lead and oversee multifaceted responsibilities, spanning fundraising and donor relations.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising

Lead the development and implementation of our recently initiated capital fundraising campaign, focused on redeveloping our facilities to increase camper capacity.

Work alongside our volunteer base to manage and grow our established annual fundraising campaign.

Identify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward gifts for our campaigns. This includes through relationships with key donors as well as more widely within the community.

Ensure that donors receive impeccable and personalized stewardship, through tailored correspondence, reports, updates, and recognition in a timely and professional manner. This includes engaging in face-to-face meetings and personalized donor-based activities.

Identify grant opportunities and maintain a schedule of application timelines. Work alongside our team to write and submit grant applications.

Work with our team to develop fundraising materials.

Lead the development of events and initiatives focused on gift cultivation and stewardship.

Coordinate and attend site visits for key donors and foundations alongside our community director.

Maintain and organize the fundraising calendar, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Act as the society’s Donor Perfect database administrator, working with our team to enter all donations, gift information, and donor information This includes maintaining detailed records of all donations, pledges, donor contact information, donor interactions, donor attributes, recognition and communication preferences. Maintain the database with regular check-ups and duplicate management. Produce relevant database reports as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

Work with the development team to have an intricate knowledge of our current and upcoming construction projects.

Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of fundraising, development and camper activities.

Serve as the non-volunteer staff lead on the Culture of Philanthropy (ie: annual fundraising) committee.

Report to the Habonim Zionist Society at their meetings and as needed between meetings.

Work with fundraising consultants to obtain support and guidance.

Attend relevant conferences and/or seminars as needed.

Uphold a culture of philanthropy within the organization.

Complete all duties in the spirit of supporting our youth led movement.

Preferred credentials and experience

Experience in fundraising, ideally leading a capital campaign reaching a greater than $1 million fundraising target.

Experience with Donor Perfect and/or other fundraising software/donor databases.

Knowledge of grant application processes and fundraising best practices.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
