Company Overview

Help a Buddy Fund is a not-for-profit volunteer-based animal welfare organization. We were established April 3, 2019 after the passing of Buddy, a dog in long-term foster care. Job Description

Help a Buddy Fund is looking for a new volunteer Board position to be filled under the Fundraising Director. This position is for a 2-year term with an expected end date of April 31, 2027. This role would require attendance at board meetings hosted in January, March, June, and September. These meetings are usually about 1-2 hours in length. The Director is also expected to attend our Annual General Meeting in April. Monthly commitment is dependent on the frequency of fundraisers hosted, at a minimum of 2 fundraising events per year, requiring a minimum of 10 hours per month while a fundraiser is being hosted.

It is expected that the Director will be available by electronic communication and/or phone. The general expectation of the Fundraising Director is to respond to any inquiries involving their role within a 48 hour period, except for times where you have already communicated you will be away from your duties. Help a Buddy Fund understands the need for personal wellbeing and flexibility in your schedule for when life becomes hectic, with an understanding that 25% of pre-agreed upon monthly commitments may be delayed or passed on to other Directors on the Board where schedule conflicts arise. Where the Fundraising Director may not be present for day-of events related to fundraising, in the event of an emergency, the President or Vice President, with reasonable notice, must be informed and briefed on information to deliver to the Board of Directors in order to conduct the fundraising activities seamlessly.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute a minimum of 2 fundraising events a year, with the goal of at least one annual fundraiser that will be associated with Help a Buddy Fund. Fundraisers should be designed to raise a minimum of $2000 (as a goal, with understanding that not all fundraisers are as successful as intended).
  • Work with animal rescue groups to establish relationships and conduct fundraising on their behalf, with the intent to split fundraising proceeds at a 50% split to the rescue and 50% towards Help a Buddy Fund’s granting programs.
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to organize volunteers needed for fundraising events.
  • Work with the Treasurer to track proceeds from each fundraiser.
  • Work with the President and Social Media Coordinators to promote the fundraiser and update the charity website.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Must have 3 months as a volunteer with Help a Buddy Fund to understand the inner-workings of the organization, OR
  • previous experience on a Board of Directors, or equivalent leadership role in non-profits
  • An interest in animal rescue efforts and have direct experience with rescue work, or caring for animals in general
  • Familiarity with fundraising events either as a volunteer, or part of the planning committee
  • Ability to generate creative ideas to add value to events, or work with others to expand their ideas
  • Ability to execute event planning from start to finish
  • Ability to delegate and assign tasks to a team of volunteers
  • Outgoing nature and willingness to interact with fundraising participants and volunteers as an ambassador for Help a Buddy Fund
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Clear communication
  • Team-oriented attitude
