Fractional CFO & Controller - Nonprofit (Remote, Part-Time, Flexible to Full-Time; 1-2 Days/Month On-site)

About the Role
We’re looking for a caring, solutions-driven Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with not-for-profit experience to support a prominent professional not-for-profit organization. You will be a valued member of the team, making an impact to operations, while benefiting from high flexibility, and autonomy to do your best work. You’ll supervise a bookkeeper, ensure accuracy and compliance, and serve as the key finance contact for leadership and the board.
Responsibilities
- Manage monthly financial reporting, compliance, budget oversight, and payroll.
- Lead the annual financial statement audit process.
- Prepare and review journal entries including depreciation and deferred revenue.
- Present reports to an engaged, financially sophisticated board.
- Oversee budgets for conferences, events, and programs.
- Mentor and review bookkeeper’s work, resolving complex issues.
- Meet with leadership 1-2 Days/Month onsite (Downtown Toronto)
What You Bring
- CPA designation (CPA Ontario) and 5+ years progressive accounting experience.
- Not-for-profit or charity experience (Controller, Director/Manager of Finance, Auditor, or CFO) is a strong asset.
- Audit/assurance background and knowledge of NPO accounting standards.
- Proficiency in payroll processing & compliance.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Tech-savvy; QuickBooks Online and cloud-based tools preferred.
