Description
- Prepare accurate and detailed budgets for proposals for new project opportunities, ensuring compliance with donor-specific financial requirements.
- Work closely with the Program Development team and international finance colleagues to plan and execute program activities and develop budgets in response to donor tenders.
- Prioritize and organize tasks related to proposal development and budget preparation to meet critical deadlines.
- Prepare budgets for proposed next phases and extensions of existing projects; review and verify all financial data.
- Respond to donor questions and concerns regarding proposals submitted.
- Perform month-end and year-end closings, deferred revenue reconciliations, monthly sub-ledger balancing, review and verification of payments, exchange rate calculations, and prepare month-end journal entries.
- Maintain the chart of accounts for projects and prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports incorporating field transactions.
- Perform financial analysis and prepare donor financial reports that meet donor requirements.
- Review field bank reconciliations and manage cash balances for projects.
- Provide support and training to project staff and partners on accounting, budget preparation, eligibility and allocation of expenditures, and reporting.
- Prepare detailed project working papers and year-end reconciliation of project accounts.
- Support audits commissioned by donor agencies, monitoring visits, and participate in internal audits.
- Ensure implementation of necessary financial controls, due diligence, and partner/grantee compliance with donor requirements.
- Provide regular variance analysis of project implementation and offer recommendations to ensure efficient use of project funds.
- Support financial aspects of new project proposal development and other duties as required.
Requirements
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in corporate accounting, and project accounting with international operations.
- Experience building budgets for international development projects is an asset
- Strong proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel) including complex formulas
- Proficiency with accounting packages (MS Dynamics GP, SAGE 50)
- Strong analytical, communication and problem solving skills.
- Capacity to identify and articulate potential problems and provide possible solutions in a concise and clear manner.
- Excellent computer skills; experience with google suite is an asset.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, work independently, and take initiative.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Curious, enthusiastic and willing to innovate and adapt.
